Who we are

Heartstream Sangha is a community of practitioners devoted to the Buddha’s teachings on liberation. Through dedicated practice, we connect with the living current of these teachings and the vital stream of our moment-to-moment experience. From this connection, a natural devotion to compassion, wise speech, wise action, renunciation, and harmlessness begins to flow. Our practice is an expression of profound care for ourselves and the world, a path that breaks the heart open to reveal an unimagined depth of love and wisdom. We understand this practice as something we do together, supported by direct experience, study, relationship, and a shared commitment to care. The teachings of the Noble Eightfold Path form the wellspring of our community, shaping how we practice and live. Our practice is heart-filled and whole-life oriented, enlivened by meditation, ethical reflection, and heart practices.Nothing in our human experience is left out. We attend to the ways greed, hatred, and delusion operate in our own minds and in the collective conditions of our time. Practice, for us, is both refuge and response: a place of deep belonging and a training in meeting suffering with clarity, courage, and care.Heartstream Sangha is grounded in classical Theravāda teachings and expressed in a thoroughly modern voice, one that honors and centers diversity, welcoming all, in recognition that awakening and social responsibility are not separate paths. We gather through online drop-in sessions, short and extended retreats, residential offerings, and in-person events.Teachers Devin Berry and Tara Mulay serve as primary guides, alongside a diverse circle of guest teachers and mentees. Together, we are cultivating a field of practice that is sincere, relational, and devoted to liberation for all beings.
